| Veteran Posts: 207 | I just discovered this Author via William Gibson's twitter account; http://twitter.com/GreatDismal. I haven't read any yet but it looks very interesting. According to wikipedia: "Lauren Beukes (born on 5 June 1976 in Johannesburg, South Africa) is a South African novelist, short story writer, journalist and TV scriptwriter. She lives in Cape Town, South Africa with her husband and her daughter." She seems to have written two SF books, "Moxyland" and "Zoo City" which has just been released. William Gibson's blurbage: "Lauren Beukes is very *very* good .. it feels effortless, utterly accomplished" About Moxyland: Moxyland does lots of things, masterfully, that lots of sf never even guesses that it *could* be doing. - William Gibson Its what you get when you take your classic 80s deracinated corporate alienation sensibility, detonate about six kilos of semtex under it, and scatter the smoking wreckage across 21st century South Africa full of unselfconscious spiky originality, the larval form of a new kind of SF munching its way out of the intestines of the wasp-paralysed caterpillar of cyberpunk. - Charles Stross pretty high calibre praise ... Anyone read them? Edited by htaccess 2010-04-24 4:06 AM | ||

Clarke Long List so we've got it in our database.  There's a long excerpt available if you want to get a feel for her style. | ||
