SPOILER ALERT!! Pease do not read further if you have not read the stories about Latro. I don't want to ruin the ending for anyone.

I have a question that has been driving me crazy since I recently re-read "Latro in the Mist." I remember reading somewhere that the escape of Roman mercenaries from the market at Delphi that happened at the end of "Soldier of Arete" is an actual historical event, and no one ever discovered how the weapons came to be in the marketplace. I was looking on the Internet to confirm this, but have not been able to find it. I don't know where I originally came up with the idea that it was historical fact--it might have been in an afterword of my original copy of "Soldier of Arete," but that is long gone, and I could find no mention of the actual historical fact in the omnibus edition that combined the first two Latro stories. Thank you all for your help.
