Location: Gunnison, Colorado		I'd start with The Reality Dysfunction (1996), but be aware that it's the first book in the Night's Dawn Trilogy. The other two are The Neutronium Alchemist and The Naked God, and the whole thing is around 4000 pages. It's a key work of "New Space Opera."

Location: South Africa		You could also try Fallen Dragon. It's a standalone novel and I quite enjoyed it when I first read it.

Location: Grootfontein, Namibia		I agree with Crusader. Fallen Dragon is a good starting place. Then Mindstar Rising, A Quantum Murder and The Nano Flower. The Night's Dawn Trilogy is a tough starting point, but quite rewarding, although I detest the second part of The Naked God. All just too convenient. Anyway, enjoy the odyssey!

I really liked this series until the end.  Quite possibly the worst ending to a series in the history of the genre.  After 4000 pages he owed his readers, he owed ME, a better ending than that.  Deus ex machina my ass! I've never thrown a book so far in my life and I read A Game of Thrones!

Peter F. Hamilton would kick a kitten in the face if it got in his way.

I enjoyed most of the series, but admin is absolutely right. Biggest Deus ex machina use ever.

Really, really enjoyed the entire Commonwealth Saga though.
