According to his website the author of the Culture novels has terminal gall bladder cancer and is unlikely to survive the year. He has asked his long time partner to do the honor of becoming his window (actual quote), has withdrawn from public engagements and gone on his honeymoon.

Location: near Skegness, Lincolnshire, UK.		Very sad news, and a sore loss to science fiction. His Culture novels were fired with Iain`s powerful imagination and love of the genre.
