Location: Gunnison, Colorado		Vance's first story--fittingly titled "The World Builder"--was published in 1945, and his final novel in 2004! An amazing career. Strangely, on Tuesday, I was skimming through his autobiography and trying to plan a series of blog posts on his novels, something I've been thinking about for a while, but had put aside for the last few months. It turns out he died on Sunday.

Location: Cheshire, England		I've never read any Jack Vance even though I'd heard of him and his influence on others. What I didn't realise was just how many books he'd written. So what would you recommend as being a good place to start?

If you are more into fantasy I'd go with "Tales of the Dying Earth" otherwise I'd try "The Star King", first of the Demon Princes series.
