Synopsis
Hugo Award nominated short story. It originally appeared in Isaac Asimov's Science Fiction Magazine, May 1985 and was reprinted in Lightspeed, April 2013. The story can also be found in the anthologies The Year's Best Science Fiction: Third Annual Collection (1986), edited by Gardner Dozois, The Year's Best Fantasy Stories: 12 (1986) edited by Arthur W. Saha, Future Earths: Under African Skies (1993) edited by Gardner Dozois and Mike Resnick and Best of the Best: 20 Years of the Year's Best Science Fiction (2005), edited by Gardner Dozois.
