World Fantasy Award nominated short story. It originally appeared in Interzone, #16 Summer 1986, and was reprinted in Lightspeed, March 2015. It can also be found in the anthologies Interzone: The 2nd Anthology (1987), edited by John Clute, David Pringle and Simon Ounsley, The Norton Book of Science Fiction: North American Science Fiction, 1960-1990 (1993), edited by Ursula K.
