Synopsis
This novelette originally appeared in two installments in Omni, September and October 1983. It can also be found in the anthologies The Year's Best Science Fiction: First Annual Collection (1984), edited by Gardner Dozois, The Third Omni Book of Science Fiction (1985), edited by Ellen Datlow, Blood Is Not Enough: 17 Stories of Vampirism (1989), edited by Ellen Datlow, and A Taste for Blood (1992), edited by Martin H. Greenberg. The story is included in the collection Prayers to Broken Stones (1991). It was expanded to the full novel Carrion Comfort in 1989.
