History

New Victoria Publishers started in 1976 as a small print shop, during this time our feminist foremothers were breaking barriers by publishing feminist books by lesbians. In 1985, New Victoria became a full-time publisher and Stoner McTavish was released, an immediate bestseller by Sarah Dreher, which is still in print.

For over 30 years, New Victoria publishers has been providing a voice for our community, publishing well over a hundred books by lesbians, about lesbians and their lives, winning three Lambda Literary Awards and being nominated for four more. New Victoria was named "Best of the Small Presses" by the Standard Journal in 2002 for the quality and reverence of our nonfiction titles. And Owl of the Desert was ForeWord Magazine's Book of the Year Gold Medal Winner in the Gay/Lesbian fiction category.

In 2007, the business moved to Chicago, and will continue the 30 year tradition of publishing lesbian feminist literature, by and for lesbians. We appreciate very much your continued support.

Our latest book, Sparkling Rain has won the 2009 GCLS Anthology Literary Award!
