Slayers of Old

Jim C. Hines

Three former Chosen Ones have joined together to spend their retirement in peace and quiet, running Second Life Books and Gifts in Salem, MA. A calm, peaceful, tourist-filled oasis, where they never have to worry about saving the world. Until some of the locals start summoning ancient creatures best left where they were... and they discover that their bookstore basement just may be the portal to the underworld.

These ex-heroes may have thought they were done... but if they want to finish their retirement in peace, they'll have to join together to save the world one last time.

Why leave saving the world to the young?

Queen of the Slayers

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Nancy Holder

No vacation. No benefits. And the only retirement is an early death.

With the closing of the Hellmouth and the awakening of hundreds of potential slayers, Buffy Summers thought she had overturned the Slayer's self-sacrifice and earned herself a much-deserved break. But the thrill of victory is short-lived. The Forces of Darkness are not ones to graciously accept defeat, and the collective rage unites disparate and powerful parties more eager than ever to reclaim dominance.

Willow's magickal distribution of the slayer essence left girls across the world discovering their latent power. Giles races to reorganize the now much-needed Watchers Council, and the Scoobies relocate to Europe. And there in Rome, Buffy is drawn to the Immortal -- a charismatic, if inscrutable, figure. But then comes word that a number of the fresh slayers are being coerced to join an army of slayers -- governed by the mysterious "Queen of the Slayers," an awesome evil determined to claim the intoxicating slayer essence for herself.

Godslayers

Gearbreakers: Book 2

Zoe Hana Mikuta

The Gearbreakers struck a devastating blow against Godolia on Heavensday, but the cost of victory has been steep. Months later, the few rebels who've managed to escape the tyrannical empire's bloody retribution have fled to the mountains, hunted by the last Zenith?Godolia's only surviving leader.

Eris has been held prisoner since the attack on the capital city, which almost killed her. And she begins to wish it had when she discovers Sona?the girl she loves, the girl she would tear down cities for?also survived, only to be captured and corrupted by the Zenith. The cybernetic brainwashing that Sona has forcibly undergone now has her believing herself a loyal soldier for Godolia, and Eris' mortal enemy.

With the rebellion shattered and Godolia moving forward with an insidious plan to begin inducting Badlands children into a new Windup Pilot program, the odds have never been more stacked against the Gearbreakers. Their last hope for victory will depend on whether Eris and Sona can somehow find their way back to each other from opposite sides of a war...

Slayers: The Making of a Mentor

Slayers

C. J. Hill

Before dragon eggs landed on American soil. Before a Slayer camp existed. And before Tori discovered her powers... there was an island. Lush forests, jutting peaks, and sloping hills covered St. Helena--the single most remote island in the Atlantic. And it is here where Dr. B grew up, working each summer on the Overdrake plantation alongside his brother. All was well until the day something was discovered on the plantation and things went horribly wrong.

Hajime Kanzaka

However, as events progress, the disappearance of the former leader of the guild needs investigation and the results could have dire consequences for Lina and Gourry, especially with Mazoku around.

The Light Novel Classic is Back in Print! Contains Volumes 1-3!

Beautiful and brilliant sorcerer girls just can't have nice things, huh? All I wanted to do was swipe a little bit of bandit treasure. Now suddenly I'm being chased around by icky trolls, nasty demons, mean mummies, and brooding golem bad boys. Wait, what?! No! This sounds like work! Great, and now we've got demons stalking us and spike-shooting wolves pouring in through the windows! Guess I'll have to clean up this mess before I get my R&R... I'll show them there's a reason you don't cross Lina Inverse...Hey! You! Whaddaya mean you don't know who I am? You've never heard of me before? The great genius, Lina Inverse? Why not? I'm beautiful, talented, and the best mage around! Then again, this lunkhead swordsman Gourry wasn't aware of me at first either, and now we're travelling together. At least the legendary Rezo the Red Priest knew who he was dealing with. But who's this dude made of rocks? And ugh, another overenthusiastic do-gooder. Listen, just buy the book and it'll tell you all about my incredible adventures and heroic deeds. Put it back on the shelf and I'll hit you with a Fireball, got it?

Slayers Vol. 2

Slayers Collector's Edition: Book 2

Hajime Kanzaka

Contains the Complete Volumes 4-6!

So Gourry and I agreed to escort Sylphiel to her family in Saillune City, but she didn't tell me her uncle was hiding the most wanted man in town--P-P-Prince Phil. (Ugh! Blech!) We thus get drawn into some nobel family drama that, you guessed it, blows up royally. Good thing Princess Amelia is every bit as plucky as she is powerful!

Wait, she's traveling with us now? Turns out we might need the help! We're just minding our own merry business one minute, and the next, some lady shows up and steals my magic! You'll never guess this one, because we'll be dealing with a cult, some possessed armor, a magical beast, and one mysterious priest before we get to the bottom of things ourselves.

Then we receive an invitation from our old pal Zuma the assassin, who wants me to come to Vezendi. I'm guessing he's not interested in catching up over tea, huh? As if that wasn't enough, there's also skullduggery afoot between Xellos and some other shadowy figures. What gives? I mean, I know I'm good, but I swear! These demons just can't get enough of me!

Slayers Vol. 3

Slayers collector's Edition: Book 3

Hajime Kanzaka

Contains the Complete Volumes 7-9!

I know everyone wants a piece of me, virtuoso sorcerer Lina Inverse, but the demons have really been on my case lately. It's like they're out to get me or something! In hopes of finding out why, we take a special trip to Dragons' Peak to consult with the legendary Claire Bible...

Or, at least, that was the plan! But what starts out as a quest for cosmic insight turns into a fight for our lives when the dreaded Chaos Dragon Gaav shows up. And what starts out as a fight for our lives turns into a murder/kidnapping when... Hellmaster Fibrizo shows up?! Talk about escalation! Now, on top of saving the world, we've gotta go save Gourry. Great.

Truth be told, I'm still not entirely sure how to explain how we get ourselves out of that one. It's a real doozy of a story that, uh, may or may not involve losing the Sword of Light. (Whoops?) So next, we're off to find my guy a new toy. Time for some classic lighthearted adventuring that won't lead to any demonic trouble at all! No siree!

Slayers Vol. 4

Slayers Collector's Edition: Book 4

Hajime Kanzaka

Contains the Complete Volumes 10-12!

The quest for a magic sword continues! Gourry and I try our luck in Solaria, where an innocent bit of weapons-based extortion leads to a full-on cloak-and-dagger conspiracy. Hoo boy.

Next up, we hit the lake town of Crimson after the council puts out an all call for available sorcerers. See, they quietly want to quash a little insurrection that a local sorcerers' council leader started. (It's bad for business and all.) But when Gourry and I arrive on the scene, the true tragedy afoot isn't quite what we were led to believe.

Needless to say, I've just about had it with all this shadowy intrigue. Frankly, I could go the rest of my life without ever seeing another demon again too. So, wait... what the heck are we doing back in Gyria City now?!

Slayers Vol. 5

Slayers Collector's Edition: Book 5

Hajime Kanzaka

Contains the Complete Volumes 13-15!

Following some great news (not) from an old friend about the impending end of the world, Gourry and I are right back in Gyria City to get to the bottom of the surging hordes of demidemons terrorizing the place. And you can rest assured it's not that simple.

Afterward, we take a chill trip (not) to the so-called City of Temples, where the local church bigwigs are all at each other's throats after a recent arson-slash-murder. Nothing like a little suspicion to bring out the best in people, eh?

Then, boy, am I glad to be off to Sairaag again (not)! There's no two ways about it--the hard-luck town is the epicenter of all the creepy shenanigans going on lately. So what better way to put a stop to it than to go there and handle it myself? After all, this one turns out to be personal...

Slayers Vol. 16

Slayers Collector's Edition: Book 16

Hajime Kanzaka

A Chance Encounter in Atessa

So, a virtuoso sorcerer and a master swordsman walk into a bar... Yeah, you've heard this one before. The locals immediately hit 'em up for a job because they look sooo powerful and the town's just that dang desperate for help. In the case of Atessa, city of blacksmiths, there's apparently some funny business going down in the surrounding woods. Mines are being attacked, caravans raided--the whole shebang. Yup, there's definitely something foul afoot in this forest. Frankly, I don't care to find out what, but if the price is right...

Slayers Vol. 17

Slayers Collector's Edition: Book 17

Hajime Kanzaka

The Long Road Home

Everyone wants to visit home once in a while, right? Even me, the brave and beautiful sorcerer Lina Inverse! Thus my trusty (if dimwitted) traveling companion and I set off on a meandering journey toward my hometown... Welp, I don't have to tell you it all goes horribly wrong, do I? Pretty soon, we're forced to make the best of ending up somewhere that is decidedly NOT our intended destination. It'd be one thing if we merely needed to get ourselves back on track, but--no surprise--everyone in this new locale wants a piece of little ol' me. So, yeah, we're kinda sorta on the run now...
