The year is 2095. Magic has been tamed as another form of technology, and the practice of magic is now a rigorous discipline. Brother and sister Tatsuya and Miyuki Shiba are just about to start their first year at the renowned First Magic High School of Japan. But the school's ironclad rules mean that the brilliant Miyuki enters the prestigious Course 1, while her older brother, Tatsuya, is relegated to Course 2--and that's just the beginning of their troubles!

Tatsuya and Miyuki Shiba are brother and sister, but they share a bond that transcends mere blood relation. Despite the fact that they're siblings who attend the same school, their lot in life couldn't be more different. Miyuki's a Bloom, one of the elite students of Magic High, while Tatsuya's a Weed, with low expectations and even lower levels of respect. But having skillfully diffused a tense situation, Tatsuya finds himself recruited by the school's disciplinary committee and soon discovers there's more to Magic High than he realized...

The Nine School Battle.

Ever year in mid-July, students from magic high schools all over the country gather to participate in fierce competitions of magical skill. Miyuki Shiba is among the members of the team First High will send to the battle. The magical skill of the competitors will be a huge factor, but there's another one-the tuning of their CADs. Luckily, they've got someone with them who specializes in the field-Miyuki's older brother Tatsuya. But when the Nine School Battle is targeted by a sinister group, all the talent in the world may not be enough to secure victory...

The rookie competition is one of the most highly anticipated spectacles of the Nine School Competition and a chance for freshman athletes to shine. First High's beloved Miyuki Shiba takes center stage during these matches to give a beautifully elegant performance. Her brother, Tatsuya, doesn't have a moment to waste as he works around the clock as part of the engineering team, relaxing only when he gets a chance to admire his sister from behind the scenes. But after his teammates fall prey to a horrific accident, Tatsuya is suddenly thrust into the spotlight and set on a direct collision course with the Crimson Price, Masaki Ichijou!

After the conclusion of the Nine School Competition, summer arrives in force, bringing with it that most precious salvation for students--vacation! Shizuku invites Tatsuya, Miyuki, and their friends to her family's island villa for a bit of fun in the sun, but all of this is just a pretext to set the perfect tropical stage for Honoka's romance. Meanwhile, the ace of Third High, Masaki, entertains Kichijouji at home, unaware of his partner's struggle with self-doubt. Shun finds himself playing bodyguard to a beautiful foreigner, and Eimi is cornered for a secret she can't reveal at any cost. The one who's got it toughest, though, is Mayumi, who's desperate to find the next student council president before time runs out!

The nationwide All-High Magic Thesis Competition is lauded as a more cerebral and refined contest than the action-packed Nine School Competition. After seeing more than enough gunfights and magical duels in between classes, this change of pace suits Tatsuya just fine. Unfortunately, not every spectator is content with simply enjoying the event. With rival students, intelligence operatives, and a foreign assassin all in attendance, Tatsuya might need more than just his wits to keep everyone safe!

It's time for the National Thesis Competition to take place in Yokohama but what was supposed to be a grand event for the participating students has been turned into a battlefield. A mysterious band of armed magicians and mechanized weapons have stormed in and it may be up to Tatsuya and the others to get everyone home safely!

Looking at Miyuki and Tatsuya now, it might be hard to imagine them as anything other than loving siblings. But it wasn't always this way... Three years ago, Miyuki was always uncomfortable around her older brother. The rest of their family treated him no better than a lowly servant, even though he was the perfect Guardian, watching over Miyuki while she lived a normal middle school life. But what really bothered her was that he never showed any emotions or thoughts of his own. However, when danger comes calling during a fateful trip to Okinawa, their relationship as brother and sister will change forever...

Miyuki's classmate Shizuku Kitayama is on her way to study abroad. For magicians, this is normally impossible, since allowing the genes of someone who can use magic outside their home country's borders is tantamount to giving up national secrets. But it's allowed to happen in one case-exchange programs. And that's how Angelina has arrived in Japan from the USNA to study at First High. But it seems she's a part of something much bigger than a simple cultural exchange!

December, 2095. In exchange for Shizuku going to study in the USNA, Lina has been attending Magic High School in Japan. Tatsuya figured out her true identity as a member of USNA special forces right away but as soon as one mystery is solved, another breaks out. Right around the same time as Lina's arrival in Japan, there has been a series of attacks on magicians by something called the "vampire." But while Tatsuya and Mikhiko try to use old magic to discover the identity of this criminal, an assault on their school occurs!

USNA Major Angie Sirius's arrival in Japan as Lina the American exchange student was suspiciously coincident with the vampire attacks occurring in the vicinity of Magic High School. With the parasites behind the uproar finally neutralized, things have mostly settled down. However, since they merely vacated the bodies they were inhabiting, it's only a matter of time before the parasites find new hosts. As soon as Tatsuya learns the vampiric creatures are still on the loose, he rejoins his friends on the hunt to eliminate the monsters once and for all-even if Major Sirius hounds him in the process!

April 2096 has arrived. Despite the commotion they were involved in, Tatsuya and Miyuki safely passed all of their classes and are now returning as juniors for another semester. In light of Tatsuya's accomplishments, a magic engineering curriculum has been established, granting him a new lease on proper student life. With his new classes and his position as acting student council vice president, Tatsuya is certain that this year for sure, he'll be able to enjoy a peaceful time at school with his sister... until three freshmen form the elite Numbered families start raising hell in their First High debut!

July 2096. Another year means another summer, and that means a new Nine School Competition. Just to spice things up, the participants are informed only weeks before the event that there are some massive rule changes! While everyone's running around frantically trying to figure out what they should do, Tatsuya catches wind of another plot that might be brewing behind the scenes of this year's competition. As the shadows rise for the second year in a row... let the games begin!

Two months have passed since the nefarious events surrounding the latest Nine School Competition, and its cerebral counterpart, the Thesis Competition, is fast approaching. Helping out First High with the event, Tatsuya will surely have his work cut out for him even if everything goes according to plan. Of course, nothing ever does, which might explain the letter from Maya Yotsuba containing a curious request: to assist in the capture of Gongjin Zhou, one of the masterminds behind the recent Parasidoll incident. Tatsuya and Miyuki depart for Kyoto, where they'll have to keep their wits about them to safely navigate the hidden schemes and shadowy conflicts that lurk just beneath the surface of the ancient capital!

Only a scant few weeks remain before the Thesis Competition, which becomes the perfect excuse for Tatsuya and Miyuki to scour Kyoto for the fugitive Gongjin Zhou. Together with Minoru Kudou, a Kyoto local, they comb the ancient city's streets in what appears to be a fruitless search. Even though the clock is ticking, all their leads seem to go nowhere-until Tatsuya gets word that Mayumi's bodyguard has turned up dead by the Katsura River. With new clues and new allies kicking the manhunt into high gear, the party quickly closes in on their quarry's hideout, unaware of what lies in wait for them once they finally catch up...

The invitation has arrived. It is time for the New Year's Reception at the Yotsuba family residence. This year, Miyuki and other candidates will gather there to decide who will be the next leader of their powerful clan. If chosen as the successor, she would never have to see her brother live as a pariah ever again. At the same time, such a position surely entails a political marriage, plunging her mind into complete turmoil. Complicating matters, the current head of their family sows doubt with the shocking claim that Miyuki is not Tatsuya's sister. When the new year comes, their relationship may be changed forever...

With the New Year comes a wave of changes. Though few are surprised that Miyuki has formally been recognized as the next head of the Yotsuba family, no one could have anticipated her engagement to Tatsuya would be finalized at the same time. As Honoka and the others try to digest the information, the Ichijou family immediately objects to the union, proposing that Miyuki marry their scion, Masaki Ichijou, instead. Meanwhile, with the world of magic watching intently, the powerful gather to select the next Ten Master Clans...

A suicide bombing brings the Master Clans Council to an abrupt close! Armed with only the knowledge that the explosion was triggered by corpse manipulation magic, Tatsuya sets off in search of the perpetrator along with Juumonji. After being egged on by his father, Masaki trails behind them to Tokyo in an attempt to one-up Tatsuya's investigation. But things take a turn for the unexpected when Masaki summons up the courage to propose to Miyuki...

Gu Jie, a magician who orchestrated a sinister suicide bombing by manipulating corpses to do his bidding, has gone into hiding somewhere in Japan. As public outcry against magicians builds and humanist forces gain momentum, the Ten Master Clans task Tatsuya, Katsuto, Mayumi, and Masaki with determining the whereabouts of the mastermind behind the bombings. But when Major Benjamin Canopus, the second-in-command of the most powerful magic unit in the United States, starts gunning for Gu Jie as well, Tatsuya becomes inexplicably enraged!

Spring is here, and the graduating seniors of First High are planning a getaway to sunny Okinawa. At the same time, Tatsuya and Miyuki will be on the island as the Yotsuba family's representatives at a memorial service for the victims of the invasion there several years earlier. Of course, this is just a cover for their true purpose: foiling a terrorist plot hatched by some deserters and Australian operatives. Their primary target is a party that Shizuku and Honoka will be attending--What are the chances? Romance is in the air, and danger is on the horizon, making this a vacation they'll never forget!

March 2097--Brazil deploys the strategic-class spell Synchroliner Fusion in South America, starting a wave of unrest that will reach as far as Japan, where the new school year is just beginning. Tatsuya and Miyuki have entered their third year at First High, but anti-magician sentiment has been steadily rising. As many young scions of the twenty-eight families gather to discuss what to do about the concerning political climate, a much more immediate threat sits just beyond the shores of Sado Island...

The Ten Master Clans and the Eighteen Support Clans have gathered for a conference to raise concerns about Tatsuya's behavior. His official position is that all his actions were necessary to protect Miyuki and he has the full support of the Yotsuba, including the current head of the clan, Maya. Naturally, some of the other families are not so easily convinced. And while this captures everyone's attention, Mitsuya Shiina vanishes without a trace, kicking off yet another incident that may affect more than just First High...
