Biography
ARTHUR B. EVANS is a renowned Jules Verne scholar, and professor of French at DePauw University. He is the general editor of Wesleyan's Early Classics of Science Fiction series, coeditor of The Wesleyan Anthology of Science Fiction, and managing editor of the journal Science Fiction Studies.
He has written extensively and illuminatingly about Jules Verne in Jules Verne Rediscovered: Didacticism and the Scientific Novel (1988)--which won the Eaton Award--and in shorter essays for Science Fiction Studies, Foundation: The Review of Science Fiction, Extrapolation, and notes and bibliographies for editions of Verne in the Wesleyan University Press Early Classics of Science Fiction series, of which he is general editor. He coedited the Philip K Dick critical anthology On Philip K Dick: 40 Articles from Science Fiction Studies (anth 1992) with R D Mullen, Istvan Csicsery-Ronay and Veronica Hollinger, whose contents are as the title indicates drawn from Science Fiction Studies; and the SF in the Classroom textbook fiction anthology Science Fiction: The Wesleyan Anthology (anth 2010) with Istvan Csicsery-Ronay Jr, Joan Gordon, Veronica Hollinger, Rob Latham and Carol McGuirk. Another critical anthology, edited solo, is Vintage Visions: Essays on Early Science Fiction (anth 2014).
Evans has been editor of Science Fiction Studies since 1991. Further authors about whom he has written for that critical journal include E F Bleiler, Gustave Le Rouge, Maurice Renard and Jacques Spitz. For his services to sf and its teaching he received the Thomas D Clareson Award in 2012.
