Biography

Fran Wilde's first novel, the Andre Norton-Nebula and Compton Crook-Award winning and Nebula Nominated UPDRAFT (Tor/Macmillan 2015) received multiple starred reviews and was named one of iO9's Very Best Science Fiction and Fantasy titles for 2015.

CLOUDBOUND, book two in the Bone Universe series, is a Locus Recommended book, a Kirkus September don't-miss, an iO9.com Fall Must-Read and an Amazon September fall pick.

HORIZON, the third and final book in the Bone Universe, was a Best Sci-Fi & Fantasy Books of September 2017 - Unbound Worlds, a Kirkus Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Books to Read in September, and a Verge Science Fiction and Fantasy Books to Read this September.

RIVERLAND (Abrams/Amulet 2019), Winner of the 2019 Nebula for Best Middle Grade and YA Novel. Wilde's debut Middle Grade novel, received a Booklist starred review and a starred review from Shelf Awareness. It was listed by the Verge and iO9 as an SFF book to check out in April 2019, and named a 2019 NPR Favorite book, and a 2019 Nebula Finalist.

Fran's Hugo- Nebula- and Locus-finalist novelette "The Jewel and Her Lapidary" was published by Tor.com in May 2016 and has been nominated for a 2016 Nebula award for Best Novelette, a Locus Award for Best Novelette Recommended, a Hugo Award for Best Novelette, and an LA Public Library Best Book.

The stand-alone sequel to "The Jewel and her Lapidary" is the novella "The Fire Opal Mechanism" - available for pre-order now!

Fran's short stories have been finalists for Hugo, Nebula, World Fantasy awards and have appeared in publications including Asimov's, Beneath Ceaseless Skies, Nature, Tor.com, and the 2017 Best Dark Fantasy and Horror. Her interview series Cooking the Books - about the intersection between food and fiction - has appeared at Strange Horizons, Tor.com, iTunes, and on her website (franwilde.net).
