Biography
Zachary Jernigan works as a feature journalist in Northern Arizona. He has a BA in Religious Studies from Northern Arizona University and an MFA in Creative Writing from the Stonecoast MFA in Creative Writing Program.
In his spare time, he enjoys buffalo wings and sushi, sitcoms, post-punk music, swimming, colleges and universities, nice public restrooms, Mario Kart, bicycles and skateboards, people who don't talk about their cars all that much, and paper books.
His debut novel, No Return: A Novel of Jeroun, is a science-fantasy story filled with sex, violence, religion, and muscular people in weird skintight costumes living on a world where god exists and is very upset. The AV Club listed it as one of the best books of 2013.
Shower of Stones: A Novel of Jeroun, the sequel and conclusion to No Return, came out in 2015. Publishers Weekly praised the novel, stating in review, "Jernigan employs hard-hitting and unflinching prose that's as concise as it is brutal."
An omnibus edition of both Jeroun novels is expected late 2016 or early 2017.
Jernigan's short fiction has appeared in various places since 2009, including Asimov's Science Fiction and Escape Pod. His first short story collection (title TBA) is forthcoming in the spring of 2016; it has already received accolades from prominent figures in the genre.
