Biography
James Reitter is an Associate Professor of English in New York. He teaches creative writing, poetry, film studies, folklore, 19th century literature, and composition and is Editor-In-Chief of the biannual arts and literature online journal, Masque and Spectacle (masqueandspectacle.com). Studying poetry under the guidance of formalist Lewis Turco (SUNY Oswego) and then Lou Asekoff and Allen Ginsberg (CUNY Brooklyn), he creates a unique blend of formal and unmetered verse through his poetic voice, and often takes inspiration from nature, art, and music. Developing interests in folklore (folktales, jokes, material culture, foodways, ethnography, mythology) and film (especially horror and fantasy) during his PhD from University of Louisiana, Lafayette, he integrates these fields his academic and pop culture writing as well.
