Biography
I'm Su-Yee Lin, a writer of somewhat surreal, magical-realist short stories. Sometimes literary fiction as well. I live in New York and hold a BA in Literary Arts from Brown University and an MFA in Fiction from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. I'm a recipient of a 2012-2013 Fulbright Fellowship in Creative Writing to China; while there, I researched Chinese folktales in relation to place for a collection of short stories. I'm still working on that collection!
I've received residencies and grants from Omi International Arts Center in upstate New York, the Swatch Art Peace Hotel in Shanghai, and Queens Council on the Arts and I was a 2014 NYC Emerging Writers Fellow at the Center for Fiction. This blog started out as a travel/cultural/folktale-inspired one but I'm slowly transitioning it to encompass all those things+writing+regular life.
I'm interested in tales of high adventure, ghosts, transformation, magical powers, and nature, especially if they have to do with China. Suggestions?
