I've finished Heroes Die by Matthew Woodring Stover recently. I really enjoyed it even if it ran out of steam towards the end (a lot of good ideas struggling to come together). It's a blood soaked sci-fi / fantasy novel that despite it's fast paced action still manages to ask quite a few moral questions about the nature of intervention, entertainment and authoritarianism. I liked how it worked on multiple levels.
