Continuing my theme of discovering authors 30 years to late, I recently really enjoyed Charles de Lint's short story collection, 'Dreams Underfoot'. I've wanted to read de Lint for years and I haven't been disappointed. One of the things that works in this collection is how there is a sense of magic and wonder in this modern fairy tale / urban fantasy world whilst it still feels quite grounded (and at times harrowing) in very real human concerns. It has made me concoct a whole new lore, imagining all my friends in the 1990s who were artists, living on the edges of things as now being people with a whole bunch of fey blood which is rather lovely!
