It's gentle, but powerful, it asks you to take your time and not rush but you can't put it down. It's really about the balance between faith and respecting old ways and traditions with strong themes of love, family and home. Really into this one.

Couldn't agree more - Arden is an excellent writer. I just finished up her latest, The Unicorn Hunters, which is fairly similar - a wonderful historical fantasy fairy tale set in Brittany (now part of France) set at the end of the 15th century. It's another page turner.?



I'll definitely check more of her out. 'The Unicorn Hunters' feels like something I would really enjoy. I can see myself deciding 'historical fantasy fairy tale' being a genre for me.

I recently finished Little Even by Catriona Ward which picked up a few awards. I read it for this challenge as it was tagged as Mythic Fiction (Horror) and it had been on my 'to-read' list for ages. It's about a sinister snake worshipping cult in a castle on a windswept Scottish island. It definitely ticks the boxes for gothic horror, but perhaps leans more into whodunnit, than folklore. I still really enjoyed it and found it quite harrowing in places.
