Uber User Posts: 794 | Forum Thread for this Challenge. 6 participants so far. Perhaps the name is putting people off. And here was I hoping that it would elicit a sympathy join. I guess that ploy never works.

Extreme Veteran Posts: 556 Location: Great Lakes, USA | Does being part of a series count as being on a list? That's a WWEnd list, so I wasn't counting books that were in a series. Edited by daxxh 2015-01-07 11:12 AM

I guess that ploy never works. Reading your post I was forced to think, "Why haven't I joined the challenge?" which let to the realization that I couldn't think of much crossover potential with my other challenges (of which a couple are explicitly award challenges). ...which led to this... Other challenges with a lot of crossover-potential with this one: 2015 Women of Genre Fiction Reading Challenge Clear the Shelves 2014 LGBT Speculative Fiction Challenge 2015 Read Around the (SFF) World Detective SFF Challenge Fantasy: Choose a Decade In Translation Read the Sequel 2015 Somewhere Out There Space Opera 2015 Challenge The Science Fictional Solar System Reading Challenge 2015 The Weirdness Sub-Genre Focus ...so I'm joining, only a little out of sympathy. (and I hope that my list helps others see that this could fit into their existing challenges)

I would go by the little red and black boxes by the book's cover page. If it hasn't got any of those it counts as Unloved. So series wouldn't count.

Uber User Posts: 370 Location: Beaverton, Oregon, USA | I don't think the title's off-putting. I think that it gets harder to find books for the challenge the more lists are added. I picked up a bunch of used paperbacks, most of which are now in the defining books of the decades lists, sigh. I still may join this challenge later this year as I plan to read some of Tolkien's posthumous works and some more of Norton's Witch World series. Also, I noticed a few folks added some books from last year. I thought about doing this, but they may end up with award nominations as this year progresses, double sigh. ;-)

I will try to avoid books that haven't gone through awards season yet That said - i'm finding myself reading more "unloved" books than award winning/part of a list this month, it looks like.

Elite Veteran Posts: 1031 Location: UK | Badseed Girl,I am the same,my guilty pleasure is urban fantasy, which is the outcast for the most part still on WWEnd. Lately a few authors have been added( and as a result I was able to add the best part of 80 books to my shelf! lol),but many are not on the site yet. People like Thea Harrison,Nalini Singh. I had thought of doing a challenge, calling it Denizens of the Darkness, covering vamps, werewolves, demons, etc, but when I looked not a single book out of 20 I am reading this year was on WWEnd. My time here is limited,I didnt feel up to spending a lot of time asking for books and authors to be added. so I gave up the idea. I did think of just doing the Subgenre challenge, picking UF,but again most of the books werent on the site.Even in the case of Kevin Hearne's Iron Druid series only 3 of the 7 books in the series are listed. Got too much on my plate already to spend a lot of time asking for books to be added. I already have about 70 books listed for challenges, better leave well alone. Mind you,if we want more members, getting UF/PNR readers onside is a good idea. They are active, vociferous, read a load of books and love to chat about them! On Goodreads and Shelfari they always have the most active groups around

Uber User Posts: 369 Location: Middle TN, USA | Dusty, Throw your list up on this thread. I am an Uberuser and I will work through it. I can add authors and novels. I just got my laptop back so I will be able to do more on the site again. I work nights and am working 56 hours a week so it may take me some time, but I will get through the list if you post it.

Uber User Posts: 370 Location: Beaverton, Oregon, USA | I added Andy Weir's "The Martian". It looks like it can't be nominated for anything since it was self-published in 2011.

Uber User Posts: 369 Location: Middle TN, USA | I might add the martian to my list. My library even has this one already! That is a miracle in itself.

Uber User Posts: 613 Location: New Zealand | Ah, that dastardly log out got me again!! Why? My work computer always keeps me logged in, but my home computer logs me out every time. Wish I could figure out how to fix that. Anyway, that was me above.
