Uber User Posts: 1057 | gallyangel - 2015-01-03 2:22 PM So, what category would this be? It sounds like Twin Peaks meets The Prisoner but without the paranormal. I'm thinking it's not quite right for the site. The Booklist Starred Review says: Fans of Stephen King, Peter Straub and F. Paul Wilson will appreciate this genre-bending, completely riveting thrill ride, which mixes suspense, horror, science fiction and dystopian nightmare all rolled up into one unputdownable book.

Well, that helps clarify things. Plenty of room for more dystopian nightmares. Edited by gallyangel 2015-01-03 3:00 AM

Uber User Posts: 1057 | gallyangel - 2015-01-03 7:54 PM Well, that helps clarify things. Plenty of room for more dystopian nightmares. Thanks for adding those books. I'm with you, the dystopian thing gets a bit old -- though it's much, much harder to write an interesting story about a utopia. David Brin just posted on this topic, on Facebook: "A brilliant, beautiful paean to the optimism of my friend, Ray Bradbury, who did dystopias very well, but who actually believed in us and in our potential to be better than we are. Read this. It's brief. And Ray would tell you that it is time to rebel against the merchants of hopelessness and fear." http://www.npr.org/2015/01/02/373248603/for-the-new-year-ray-bradburys-buoyant-vision-of-the-future "Oh, to see WHY so many directors, producers and authors are churning out lazy, cliched, cookie cutter dystopias, see my explanation here. Once you understand their reason, you may despise them even more than the fear merchants at Fox:" Edited by illegible_scribble 2015-01-03 3:43 PM

I marked it the Known Worlds II series. Sounds like good solid SF.

Uber User Posts: 770 Location: SC, USA | @Jontlaw I'm the one who added most of the Wordsworth books. Because of the nature of WWE, I set some rules for myself before I started: (1) the book had to have some supernatural element. All of the books that were strictly mysteries, like Arsene Lupin and Bulldog Drummond, do not belong in WWE. (No matter how much I like them). (2) Avoid duplication. How many versions of H. P. Lovecraft do we really need in WWE? Some works, like Uncle Silas and The Monk were already in WWE. (3) Add single authored collections, not anthologies. This means that I left out Children of the Night (Vampire Stories), The Werewolf Pack, Gothic Short Stories, Irish Ghost Stories, Scottish Ghost Stories, and Classic Victorian and Edwardian Ghost Stories. However, if you want the last group added, I don't think that anyone would argue with that. And if you know that some of the others that I thought were strictly mysteries have supernatural elements, then I will be happy to add those as well. Rhonda

Veteran Posts: 145 Location: Alief, TX | Thanks. This is a really great series, and I enjoy it a lot. I do have one I think we could use. F. Marion Crawford - The Witch of Prague and Other Stories Right now though I'm looking at HP Lovecraft tribute anthologies. There are a couple in the database, by Ellen Datlow, but I have several others that it would be nice to see. The Book of Cthulhu I, ed by Ross E. Lockhart The Book of Cthulhu II, ed by Ross E. Lockhart Cthulhu 2000: Stories inspired by H.P. Lovecraft, ed by Jim Turner H.P. Lovecraft and Others: Shadows Over Innsmouth, ed by Stephen Jones Tales of the Lovecraft Mythos, ed by Robert Bloch And a couple of collections of stories that were recommended by Lovecraft himself: H.P. Lovecraft's Favorite Weird Tales, ed by Douglas A. Anderson H.P. Lovecraft's Book of Horror, ed by Stephen Jones and Dave Carson Thanks again for the help.

Member Posts: 28 Location: suburb of Minneapolis, MN | Audible has added some James Blaylock titles that aren't here yet. I'm currently listening to The Ebb Tide. I haven't bought the others yet, so no rush on those. I was amazed though, how many Audible has added in a short time. Some of these are short stories or, as Ebb Tide, a novella. Thanks!! The Ebb Tide Land of Dreams The Elfin Ship The Disappearing Dwarf The Stone Giant The Magic Spectacles The Affair of the Chalk Cliffs In for a Penny The Aylesford Skull The Knights of the Cornerstone 13 Phantasms Zeuglodon Metamorphosis

Nothing is ever missing, it's just we haven't gotten to it yet. The author, Bone Season and it's sequel are all now in the database. Wiki said she got a six figure advance for this series. Must be nice since it's her first published work.
