A record month, 12 books. A few were pretty short, one was a novella. My favorites this month were Bob the Book, Burning Girls, and A Darkling Sea. My big revelation this month: I may not be able to read one of the books on my shelves because the font is too small and dense. It's an old, used paperback and my eyes are getting way too old. I might see about getting the digital version of it. It's starting to take the fun out of finding old treasures in used book stores. Here's the full list of my September reads:

The Adventures of Crazy Liddy - Clayton Callahan - not yet in the database
As - Malinda Lo - LGBT, WoGF, 2nd Best, P&M
Bob the Book - David Pratt - LGBT, P&M not yet in the database
The Bone Season - Samantha Shannon - LGBT, WoGF
Burning Girls - Veronica Schanoes - LGBT, WoGF
A Darkling Sea - James Cambias - P&M, 2nd Best
The Demonologist - Andrew Pyper - 2nd Best, P&M
The Faill of Arthur - JRR Tolkien - Tolkien Challenge, Just Have to
Gilgamesh the King - Robert Silverberg - Just Have to, Unloved
Mr Penumbras 24 Hour Bookstore - Robin Sloan - 2nd Best, P&M
A Natural History of Dragons - Marie Brennan - 2nd Best
Oranges are not the only Fruilt - LGBT, WoGF

The Status of the Challenges:
I Just Have to Read - 11/12
Clear the Shelves 14/15
Pick & Mix - 36/40
Solar System 3/3
Tolkien 11/12
Unloved 12/12
12 in 12 9/12
YA - 11/12
WoGF 9/12
LGBT - 8/12
2nd Best 9/12

I've got about 10 books to go, plus rereading "The Goblin Emperor" for my book club. Most are a little longer, but I should be able to finish all the challenges.

Only three genre books for me this month. I got stuck on Floating Worlds, which I found tedious and uninteresting. It took me forever to finish it. I don't think I will finish all of my challenges before the end of the year, especially if I read another like Floating Worlds!

Powers - Ursula K LeGuin - Sequel, YA, Fantasy Mini, Clear
Saturn Returns - Sean Williams - Space Opera, Series, Aussie, Clear
Floating Worlds - Cecilia Holland - WoGF, Listomania, Solar System

and 1 nonfiction book.

I had a pretty crummy month reading-wise. Between trying to get some writing done during the precious few evening hours I have and a cold, I didn't make much progress.

I read:

-I Am Legend by Richard Matheson - best book of the month and far better than any of its adaptations
-A Princess of Mars by Edgar Rice Burroughs - ok, but has terrible pacing
-Clariel by Garth Nix - was great to see an asexual woman as a protagonist
-Superposition and Supersymmetry by David Walton - loved these as science action books (thrillers?)
-Elantris by Brandon Sanderson - the final pre-epilogue scene drove me bonkers, but otherwise a decent book

And on the fringes of genre, I read Jem and the Holograms: Showtime.

I spent September trying to catch up on award winners for 12 in 12 (and on BSFA award-winners for my personal target), and on my named authors for Read More:

The Separation - Christopher Priest (12-in-12 - Clarke; Read More)
The Moment of Eclipse - Brian Aldiss (12-in-12 - BSFA)
Tooth and Claw - Jo Walton (12-in-12 - WFA; Read More)
The Three-Body Problem - Cixin Liu (12-in-12 - Hugo)
Book of Days - Gene Wolfe (Read More)

Still got some work to do for 12-in-12 and Second Best, and I need to keep an eye on Omnibusters and Read More, but the others (New Books of 2015, Series A-Z and 1960s) run into next year, so there's no rush there. The only minor issue is that I was planning to use one of the later 60s books for the Nebula, in the 12-in-12.
