This Sturgeon Award-winning short story, about a disease surveillance robot whose social programming gets put to the test, originally appeared on Slate, December 19, 2018, and was later anthologized in The Best American Science Fiction and Fantasy 2019 edited by Carmen Maria Machado and John Joseph Adams and Future Tense Fiction: Stories of Tomorrow (2019) from Unnamed Press.
