Synopsis
Unity Penfold arrives home one day to her quiet residential street to find that her house has vanished into thin air. Worse, her children's school has no record of them, and no trace of her husband can be found. Her neighbors and friends show no signs of recognizing her as anything but a complete stranger.
When she is taken to hospital and informed that she has been identified as a missing woman, Sarah Davies, no one will believe her desperate protests about her true identity. Is she the victim of a monstrous practical joke? Is she delusional or insane? Or has she somehow slipped into some sort of alternate reality? To avoid the asylum, she has no choice but to become Sarah as she sets out to search for answers to the bizarre and horrific nightmare in which she suddenly finds herself.
Margaret Tabor's Unity Penfold (1980), repackaged for the American paperback horror market in 1982 as Nightmare Street, is a weird and suspenseful story in the vein of The Twilight Zone that will keep readers guessing until its final surprising revelation. This new edition features both the original British ending and the alternate extended ending from the American edition.
