Synopsis
A Better World's in Birth! is set in a 19th-century Europe where a Communist revolution succeeded, and follows a bureaucrat named Comrade Rienzi who is tasked with investigating why the ghosts of revolution martyrs Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels, and Richard Wagner are appearing.
This novelette was subsequently included in the collection Other Worlds, Better Lives: Selected Long Fiction, 1989-2003.
