History
Located in the deep dark woods of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, Necessary Evil Press is owned and operated by Don Koish.
Established in 2003, Necessary Evil Press has rapidly become a serious contender in the world of specialty press publishing. While the press was still in its infancy, two NEP titles were nominated for the prestigious Bram Stoker Award, and one of them, The Turtle Boy, ultimately went on to receive this great honor. Every year since, our books have appeared in various Year's Best lists and appeared on many award ballots, culminating recently in a 2005 HWA Specialty Press award which cited the press' overall attention to excellence. Among the authors we have worked with are Tim Lebbon (The Assassin series, Berserk), Kealan Patrick Burke (The Turtle Boy), Gary Braunbeck (In the Midnight Museum), Brian Keene (Take the Long Way Home), Simon Clark (She Loves Monsters), and Michael McBride (Zero), almost all of which have sold out pre-publication.
Here at NEP we pride ourselves on selecting books based on the strength of story. The name of the author, while most certainly a consideration, is secondary to strong writing, credible characters, an engaging plot and scares aplenty. Backed up by high quality production values and eye-catching artwork, our releases are among the finest and most attractive books you'll find on the market, and we strive to improve with each and every one.
We have already discussed future projects with some of the most acclaimed authors out there, and are confident that you will find each new release to be a very necessary addition to your horror library.
