History
Canadian publishers McClelland & Stewart began in 1906, when founders John McClelland and Frederick Goodchild formed the company and began turning out fiction and non- fiction, including the famous "Anne of Green Gables." They were joined in 1913 by George Stewart, the eponymous other half of the company name. Today this venerable Canadian publishing house is partially owned by Random House Canada, and the University of Toronto.
