2015 Read Around the (SFF) World
When reading fantasy, it can often feel like every book is set in some form of quasi-medieval Europe. The point of this challenge is to expand our reading horizons and seek out fantasy, science fiction, and horror either set in different parts of the world or influenced by cultures other than Western European or North American.
Rules: Read and review 10 books set in different places of the world.
With genre fiction comes the particular "problem" that books aren't often set in countries or places that match our real world counterparts. That's fine. Cultural influences, mythologies from all around the world, places that bear some similarity to real countries all count. It's pretty much up to you whether a book qualifies or not. This is about travelling the world via SFF fiction - visiting a place more than once is allowed, although you should aim for seeing as much of the world as possible.
An excellent page to help you find the next location for your reading trip around the world is Books Set In..., a search engine that lets you pick a continent, region, country, or even city and gives you books set in that place. The database doesn't have all books yet but it's growing constantly. Give it a try.
Good luck and have fun on your literary travels!
