The Tolkien Reading Challenge
I read The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings several times, but nothing else. I have not attempted The Silmarillion since I was 17. And as each new volume of J.R.R. Tolkien's unpublished stories and notes hit the bookstores, I've wanted to make the effort to explore those as well. I'm betting there are many of you in our community who have the same experience. So I created this challenge to give us a little push to explore the universe of the person who brought many of us into Fantasy literature and gaming in the first place.
I understand that some of the posthumous work is difficult reading, so I've added the challenge levels. Now you can read any 3, 6, 9, or 12 books. You can reread the The Hobbit and LOTR for the challenge, as I am doing, since I haven't reread the trilogy since about 1983 and my memory has been tainted by the changes in the films, and then move on to the Silmarillion and more.
NEW: I've added Tolkien's biography by Humphrey Carpenter, The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien, The Tolkien Reader, Tales from the Perilous Realm, and several of Tolkien's translation works to WWE. So now you can add some of these to your challenge as well.
Here's the link for JRR Tolkien, his editor and son Christopher Tolkien, and his biographer Humphrey Carpenter.
