Dr. Cherijo Grey Veil leaves Earth and accepts a position as a physician at Kevarzanga-2's FreeClinic. Her surgical skills are desperately needed on a hostile frontier world with over 200 sentient species--and her understanding of alien physiology is nothing short of miraculous. But the truth behind her expertise is a secret which, if discovered, could have disastrous consequences between human and alien relations...

After turning Colonel Shropana over to the brutal Hsktskt slave traders, Dr. Cherijo Torin, a genetically enhanced human, finds herself betrayed and a prisoner of the same slavers, where she must draw on all her skills and her training to save herself and her fellow slaves.

After escaping from the Hsktskt slave traders, Cherijo and her new husband, Duncan, seek refuge from Cherijo's ruthless creator, Joseph Grey Veil, with a renegade band of alien-human halfbreeds living underground, but their new lives turn deadly when Duncan is forced into their lethal shockball games and Cherijo is forced to work to keep the players healthy.

Aboard the star vessel Sunlace, Dr. Cherijo Torin and her husband have found refuge from the Hsktskt, the League, and her half-mad creator. Now they intend to find Cherijo's foster mother--and the truth behind the subliminal messages she left in Cherijo's brain.
