This venerable publishing house was founded in 1897 by Frank Nelson Doubleday, who started off publishing (and befriending) Rudyard Kipling. Doubleday grew rapidly... by the 1920's, it was, as Doubleday Doran, the largest English- speaking publisher in the world. Doubleday is now a part of the Random House Group.
